I just returned from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Conference in Los Angeles.

The event is always inspirational and very educational. The writer intensives are amazing and I was happy to spend an entire day improving my craft under the tulage of some true experts in the field. Linda Sue park's workshop on using poetry tools to edit your work was fantastic. Mem Fox's keynote speech was inpiration. Her call to action in challenging children to stretch their reading level was well recieved and appreciated. Lin Oliver was as funny as ever with her author introductions and general banter. Kwame Alexander was born to be a public speaker. There were typically 13 workshops running simultaneously throughout the weekend, meaning it was impossible to see them all. I had to choose and let me tell you, it wasn't easy. If I could have I would have gone to every single workshop - until my brain exploded. The illustrator's portfolio showcase was crowded but excellent with some outstanding work on display. The next SCBWI conference is in New York in February 2016. I can't wait.
